While desktop purchases still account for two-thirds of revenue year-round, mobile is often the starting point for many shoppers. ADI predicts that consumers will visit retailer websites from their mobile devices more than from their desktops this holiday season.
Amazon long ago mastered this tactic, Hariharan says. In one instance, Boomerang monitored the pricing shifts of a popular Samsung television on Amazon over the six-month period before Black Friday. Then, on Black Friday itself, Amazon dropped the TV’s price from $350 all the way to $250, undercutting competitors by a country mile. Boomerang’s bots also noticed that in October, Amazon had hiked the price of some HDMI cables needed to connect the TV by about 60 percent, likely armed with the knowledge, Hariharan says, that online consumers do not comparison shop as zealously for cheaper items as they do for expensive ones.
There are still about 1,100 malls in the U.S. today, but a quarter of them are at risk of closing over the next five years, according to estimates from Credit Suisse. Other analysts predict the number will be even higher. Some ailing malls have already moved on to a second life. Austin Community College in Texas purchased Highland Mall in 2012 and converted part of it into a tech-driven learning lab and library. In Nashville, Vanderbilt University Medical Center moved into the second floor of the 100 Oaks Mall a few miles from downtown. The Southland Christian Church in Lexington, Ky., bought their nearby mall and transformed part of it into an auditorium.

Why did I wait so long? As others have said the side doors are a sticky wicket. I leave mine slightly ajar. You also have to factor in keeping it an inch and a half away from the wall if you want to open it. Top pulls up and sides out requiring clearance so measure carefully if you have a tight space. I also wish the manufacturers would keep time with trends. Most of the drawers have dividers too small to accommodate my statement necklaces or large cuff bracelets. The necklaces are too heavy to hang but also too large to fit into so few open drawers. Finally, cant set a thing on top since you have to lift to access daily items. I a mirror over it and bought another small dresser to lay out the big clunky necklaces that should neither hang nor get dusty. Over all/grand slam. JCP had these same price way less quality or features.
But demographics are actually a crude way of personalizing prices, the Brandeis economist Benjamin Shiller argued in a recent paper, “First-Degree Price Discrimination Using Big Data.” If Netflix were to use only demographic factors, such as people’s race, household income, and zip code, to personalize subscription prices, his model predicted, it could boost its profits by 0.3 percent. But if Netflix also used people’s web-browsing history—the percentage of web use on Tuesdays, the number of visits to RottenTomatoes.com, and some 5,000 other variables—it could boost its profits by 14.6 percent.
